002 Paediatric rheumatology training: a naive subject to medical trainees in Tanzania

Abstract Background Pediatric rheumatic disorders are common and result in significant impairment the quality of life, morbidity mortality. Tanzania with a population over 60 million out which children youth (0–17 years) comprise > 50% has only one paediatric rheumatologist. Given low number trained experts this sub specialty, it is expected training medical students residents will provide adequate rheumatology. This survey was aimed at determining rheumatology among Tanzania. Methods conducted senior undergraduate who had completed rotations final year from schools Survey questionnaire administered through interview to resident’s schools, questions asked included duration rotation for residency programs. Results There 11 universities that offer (UG) degree, 5 them programs pediatrics child health. The varied longest being 12 weeks shortest 7 weeks. 3 years all an exception university program 4 years. were two reported train pediatric country, topics taught both juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Five excluded due absence UG students. Final three five have One did not any class session on rheumatology, other since there no residents. Common covered arthritis systemic lupus erythematosus. Only extra dermatomyositis. Conclusion Recommendations adequately trainees undergraduates levels. need put emphasis exposing catall conditions because severe shortage practitioners
